SURVIVED ÇANAKKALE, SUNK IN THE ADRIATIC

Georg Ritter von Trapp was a young naval captain when the Austro-Hungarian Empire gave him command of one of the U6 submarines. Captain Von Trapp torpedoed and sank the French battleship Léon Gambetta in the Gulf of Toronto, Italy on April27th, 1915.

One month and one week after the victory at Gallipoli, he did not allow this battleship, which we could not hit, to return to France and sank it in the waters of the Mediterranean. At some point, Captain von Trapp entered our war history by continuing our mission.

This commander, Georg Ritter von Trapp, is the father of the children you will remember from the film “The Sound of Music” and was played by actor Christopher Plummer.

The film takes place in Trapp’s village of Mondsee-Salzburg.
